043: Give a lecture to a college/university group.
I'm going to count team-teaching Koine Greek to the guys at the prison as they're working through Global University. :)
101. Sort out clothes for charity every time I go shopping.
Sorted out 7 1/2 bags of clothes between Jon and I.
Goal 035: Make bandages for Global Health Ministries.
This is called "Jen's Lenten Discipline for 2007". I've got 4 done so far and my aim is at least 10.
Goal 069: Have a letter published in the local paper.
I wrote a letter in response to two people who urged "Christians to 'choose life'." My response was to write with ways that one could choose life and make an informed decision.
Goal 026: Read The Kite Runner
I just finished The Kite Runner and whoa...
It made me want to order more "We Will Not Be Silent" shirts in Farsi and English. It made me want to drop everything and go to Afghanistan and work in a women's clinic. It made me want to give every penny I have to orphanages.
It moved me.
Goal 046: Read all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books.
I finished the 8(?) in the series and am working through The First Four Years which isn't technically part of the collection since it was published posthumously.
The books were inspiring because it really showed the creativity one has to use in life. The family could have easily starved and I know the parents really sacrificed so that their kids could have everything they needed. The thing that was so wonderful is that even during the awful times, everyone was so happy. I guess attitude is a part of life?
Goal 063: Watch The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
I just watched it and OMG it was awesome. Everything was good:
the casting, the way they took care of the scenes, the voices of the
animals, the way they did Aslan's sacrifice (very tastefully done!)...
Some highlights:
-the beaver house
-the White Witch's sleigh and castle
-Mrs. Macready
-the battle
-the sacrifice (REALLY meaningful if you understood the allegorical symbolism -- I'm amazed I didn't cry)
-the coronation
-Aslan on the beach and then disappearing
I'd been avoiding it because the cartoon scared me when I was 6
years old; and while I've read the books and all that, I knew that the
sacrifice scene would probably reduce me to tears. I'm either
really jaded or really medicated because that scene didn't make me cry
though it was an OMG scene because it was so well-done.
Goal 071: Achieve a BMI of 24.9 or less.
Goal 072: Make it through the whole Taebo: Advanced tape with no breaks.
Well... my Taebo basics tape was broken and I wasn't feeling like yoga, so I decided to try the Taebo: Advanced
tape and see how far I could go. I made it about 25 minutes in
having not done it for... more than 6 months. I'm going to
replace the Basics tape since it's a good compact workout for
days when I need it. I also have the tape essentially memorized
so I could just theoretically do the moves to some decent music.
Goal
018: Figure out what to do for grad school.
I've started looking into programs for grad school and on the west
coast (where we'd kinda like to stay) and the west in general, the two I like are the University of Oregon and the University of Denver
for History or a J.D./MA in International Studies. Both have pluses and
minuses and it will be a year or two before I really know where God
wants me (unless He decides to make that clear and send down a book of
instructions on exactly where I'm supposed to go, what I'm supposed to
study, and what degree I'm supposed to stop at in this quest.)
It's progress...
Goal 008: Go combining during harvest.
I was telling someone at coffee this morning that I had never been
combining and I was jealous that Jon had gotten to go when he was out
visiting people. Well... they were harvesting the last of their
wheat and the wife volunteered to take me over to go for a ride.
So... I went up in the combine and the guy driving it explained how
everything worked. It was so fascinating for me because my dad is
an engineer and I'm incredibly interested in how things work. I
was amazed at the electronics and computer things they have: GPS, a
monitor that tells the number of bushels/the moisture content/the
temperature of the grain, and other interesting things.
Soooo... 1 goal down, 100 to go!
Goal 046: Read the works of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
This was the easiest one to start on because I have all the books (thanks to my mother-in-law). I read Little House in the Big Woods on my way to and from Conrad today and I'm now partway into Little House on the Prairie.
It's been fun because my mom read the first one to us when we were
little and then I had to read it again almost 20 years ago in
elementary school. The second one is interesting because I've
lived on the prairie (I'm now on the edge of it) for almost 3 years now
so I totally know the landscape and the things they are describing.

If you haven't already heard of it, the 2,996 Project is trying to get
one blogger per 9/11 victim so that they can have tributes posted for
each of them on that day. I signed up and got one of the
firefighters who went into the building. If you haven't signed up
yet, I really encourage you to.
OK... I know this started out as a blog on living in Montana but... I needed a place to put my 101 in 1001 list so it's going here.
The idea behind 101 in 1001 is that you meet 101 goals/do 101 tasks in 1001 days. My start date is today (August 12, 2006) and my ending date is May 9, 2009. Adding to the fun of this is the promise that for every goal I do not complete, I will put $1 in my changejar on WhatGoesAround.Org donate $1 to the Heifer Project.
